I felt the need to get these feelings out from inside of me. I needed this, and I think the txistu did too. The txistu is capable of expressing emotions such as calm, anger, joy, peace or sadness, amongst many others.
Generally speaking, the txistu has been associated more than anything with dance rhythms and institutional events, and although this stereotype no longer exists, us txistu players have rarely been able to show the different rhythms that live inside us and empty ourselves of these emotions. Most of us have an inner wall that prevents us from showing our feelings… feelings which accompany us and those around us at all times.
Friends and loved-ones have been ever-present in my thoughts while creating this music. Especially my family, and amongst them, my brother-in-law Jexux Lizaso, who died in 2008 and was my first txistu teacher.
For a musician, there is no better feeling than to know you've touched people's emotions. If this music helps you swing into the past, surf into the future and enjoy the present, I'm happy. Back..
